Pedodontic and Orthodontic Surgery in Pallini and Nea Makri in Attica
The child’s first painless and pleasant visit to the dental surgery creates a positive experience that will accompany the child to the rest of their lives…
Why are deciduous (milk) teeth important?
Who is the pedodontist?
A pedodontist is a dentist specially qualified and trained on dealing with very young patients properly and effectively as far as prevention and treatment of dental diseases are concerned. In addition, he/she instructs the child towards proper dental hygiene and diet.
The pedodontist, using psychological techniques and specific vocabulary for the description of the treatment, changes the image of dentistry from a painful and stressful process to a simple and acceptable by the child action.
When should the first visit take place?
The first visit to the pedodontist should take place with the appearance of the first tooth and not later than the completion of the first year of the child’s life.
During this first visit the pedodontist will evaluate the child’s dental growth and will give the parents important information concerning:
-The growth and formation of the teeth
-The value of deciduous teeth
-The creation as well as the prevention of caries
and tartar
-The proper use of feeding bottle and the selection
of pacifier.
-The mouth habits such as finger and pacifier sucking and how and when they should be broken.
-First aid in case of tooth injury.
- They contribute to the proper growth of jaws and face.
- They are necessary for correct speech, especially during the age when children learn to talk.
- They are necessary for chewing food.
- They keep the spaces that the permanent teeth will take up thus leading the latter in their normal position in the jaws.
- Healthy milk teeth create a healthy environment for the permanent teeth, whereas decayed ones contribute to the spreading of bacteria to the permanent teeth resulting in their being carious too. Injuries and abscesses of gums affect the health of permanent teeth directly.
- Children with decayed teeth and gum abscesses tend to have lower than the normal average weight, a fact that affects negatively their overall growth.
- Healthy milk teeth give the child a beautiful smile and reinforce their self-image.
